Comedy star Rainn Wilson is asking crypto enthusiasts to donate their “worthless” Bitcoin to a charity that champions equality and education worldwide.
Wilson, beloved for his role as obnoxious paper salesman Dwight Schrute in the US version of The Office, released a video supporting the Mona Foundation, which helps communities – particularly women and girls – in the poorest areas of the globe.
The not-for-profit now takes Bitcoin, Bitcoin Cash, Ethereum, and Litecoin donations via Coinbase. So Wilson, 53, encouraged “Bitcoin owners, cryptocurrency fanatics, and alternative financing fans” to donate.
The actor, who has worked with Mona for more than a decade, added: “I hope you’ll consider giving your worthless cryptocurrency to the Mona Foundation.
“As you know, Mark Cuban (an American businessman and investor) said that cryptocurrency… that he’d rather have bananas than Bitcoin, so please, give your bananas to the Mona Foundation.”
The Mona Foundation’s website states: “We educate children in need globally, empower women and girls, and enable them to give back to transform their own communities.
“In 2018, we supported the education and empowerment of more than 411,000 students in 16 projects in 10 countries.
“We are the recipient of a $1,000,000 Bitcoin grant from Pineapple Fund, and now accept other cryptocurrencies like Ether (ETH), Litecoin (LTC), and Bitcoin Cash (BCH) through The Giving Block.
“Your crypto donation will be valued at the time of donation at its tax deductible FMV (fair market value).”
