Cryptocurrency payment processing firm BitPay has now added support for Ripple (XRP) payments after initially announcing a partnership back in October.
BitPay was founded in 2011 and is currently one of the world’s biggest crypto payment service providers. In both 2017 and 2018, it processed more than $1 billion in digital asset payments.
The option to accept XRP, the third-largest cryptocurrency by market capitalisation, is now available to BitPay’s “thousands” of registered merchants.
Alongside unveiling support for Ripple’s coin, BitPay also revealed the first two merchants who will be accepting XRP payments.
CareUSA – one of the oldest humanitarian aid organisations in the world – now accepts tax-deductible donations made in XRP.
Digital gift card company eGifter, which was one of the first businesses to start taking Bitcoin payments back when BitPay originally opened up for business, will now also support purchases made with XRP.
Other notable BitPay users include Dish Networks and Microsoft, who may both start accepting XRP payments in the near future.
BitPay utilised libraries maintained by the Xpring team to integrate the cryptocurrency into its platform.
In tandem with its online merchant platform, it also supports “brick-and-mortar” retail payments and global payments for billing.
The move now means BitPay supports seven cryptocurrencies including Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH), Bitcoin Cash (BCH), USD Coin (USDC), Gemini Dollar (GUSD), and Paxos Standard Token (PAX).
