Facebook makes another key blockchain appointment

Evan Cheng has taken on the role of Director of Engineering, Blockchain at Facebook.

He was previously Director of Engineering, Programming Languages and Runtimes at the social media giant and his new position closely follows on from Kevin Weil becoming VP of Product, Blockchain.

In May, Coin Rivet reported that David Marcus, Head of Facebook’s Messenger offering, was fronting a new blockchain division. In a Facebook post, Marcus said: “After nearly four unbelievably rewarding years leading Messenger, I have decided it was time for me to take on a new challenge. I’m setting up a small group to explore how to best leverage blockchain across Facebook, starting from scratch.”
